Rogers Hornsby was a baseball infielder and second baseman in the mlb and later became a coach. When he was eighteen, his all-star older brother in the Texas League asked him to try out. As a meat processor when he was kid, he often played baseball after work. His first team was the Dallas Steers, but he was only on it for two weeks. He later went on the Hugo Scouts. In 1915, he signed with the St Louis Cardinals and stayed there until 1919.
