Old Pete Alexander was a pitcher who lived from 1887 to 1950. His full name was in fact Grover Cleveland Alexander. He was actually named after the president. In 1909, he played for the Galesburg boosters in the Illinois-Missouri league. He almost had his entire career ended while he was running a base and a ball struck him. He later went on with the Phillies to win the triple crown three times. Twice with Phillies and once with the Cubs.
